This article addresses transformation in the world of work, starting from the phenomenon of productive restructuring. In this context, the training of a worker who adapts to these new productive relationships becomes a requirement of the business community. In this sense, this article aims to analyze the presence, in the guiding documents of Vocational and Technological Education (EPT) related to high school, of the competence of adaptability, to identify to what type of conception of professional training it belongs. For this, we will seek to understand the different approaches to work; analyze the competence of adaptability to the world of work in the opinion of the business community; to identify the main concepts of professional training in dispute since the 1990s; and to understand the meaning acquired by the adaptability competence in the guiding documents of EPT. We carry out bibliographic and documentary research. We conclude that the competence of adaptability present in some of the guiding documents of EPT is part of the neoliberal logic and characteristic of a technicist formation geared exclusively to meet the demands of the current labor market. We advocate an integral and humane education that trains a worker who has the power to make decisions and choices and who does not undergo frequent adaptation to the demands of the business community.
