Chemistry teaching is often unattractive to students due to the difficulty in relating theory and practice. In this sense, it is important that the teacher uses pedagogical strategies that allow them to contextualize their classes according to the students' daily lives. This experience report sought, on the topic of medicinal plants, to propose the use of methodological tools that can contribute to improving the understanding of theoretical content on acid-base indicators and organic functions by high school students. The stages of this report showed the students' interest in classes where the content was presented in a contextualized way and related to their daily lives, in addition to encouraging family interaction in the activities carried out. As a conclusion to this experience report, students have a better understanding of the content worked on, allowing the construction of knowledge based on their own observations, in addition to the great involvement of family members and the school community in the activities carried out.
