Abstract

Scientific literacy addresses the ability to understand and use basic scientific concepts. Scientific literacy, on the other hand, involves the practical application of knowledge in real-life situations. This study aimed to analyze and categorize the levels of scientific literacy among high school students in the state network in the district of Arraial d’Ajuda, in Porto Seguro, Bahia. The methodology consisted of adapting and applying the Basi c Scientific Literacy Test (BSLT ) to 3rd year high school students, as well as creating and applying investigative cases related to the separation of mixtures. The results revealed the existence of students classified at different levels of scientific literacy, such as "at a critical level", "to be built", "under construction" and "constructed". As for scientific literacy, the levels identified were: "nominal", "functional", "structural" and "multidimensional". These findings contribute to a better understanding of the scientific literacy of the students investigated and can help in the development of more effective educational strategies in this area .
