THE RELEVANCE OF AN ENGLISH LANGUAGE APPROACH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES IN THE SECONDARY VOCATIONAL EDUCATION IN NURSING

The language for specific purposes approach demands a careful needs analysis. This research shows how it was possible to detect the needs presented by students in the secondary vocational education in nursing at a federal public school. The study is qualitative, an exploratory case study, based on the direct observation of students´ behavior. Documents related to the secondary vocational education and the language for specific purposes approach served as a theoretical foundation. The generation of data was carried out through the use of mixed questionnaires and conversation circles, analyzed, and interpreted according to Bardin´s content analysis. In this study, we intend to point out the relevance that this approach has in the students´ education for work and life.
