PROFQUI’S HISTORICAL TRAJECTORY AND ADVANCES OVER SEVEN YEARS OF ACTIVITY

The Professional Master's Program in Chemistry on a National Network, PROFQUI, completes 7 years of activity in 2024, having awarded the master's degree to more than 400 basic education chemistry teachers nationwide. It is a significant milestone and shows the program's potential to contribute to the continued formation of teachers and the improvement of Brazilian basic education. This article provides a brief history of continuing teacher formation in Brazil and how PROFQUI was created in this context. The discussions and decision-making surrounding the construction of the program project are also recorded here. In addition to this historical contextualization, the article briefly presents the academic and administrative organization of the program, its lines of research and disciplines offered. An overview of the offer of positions, the number of people enrolled and those who dropped out from the course is presented, as well as an analysis of the profile of the professor staff and the variety of didactic materials developed by master's students until 2023. Finally, the main challenges to be surpassed by PROFQUI in the coming years are mentioned.
