This article analyzes school dropout in technical courses of the Rede Federal de Educação Profissional e Tecnológica. The study of this theme gains importance when one realizes that dropping out of school prevents the realization of the right to education, becoming an obstacle to the full development of the person, their preparation for the exercise of citizenship and their qualification for the world of work. Furthermore, it entails the waste of academic, economic and social resources. Thus, this study aimed to analyze data on dropouts in technical courses from the Rede Federal, based on information made available on the Platafomra Nilo Peçanha - PNP. The study began by promoting a discussion on the concepts and characteristics of school dropout, as well as a historical and material contextualization of the origins and conceptual bases of Educação Profissional e Tecnológica – EPT. Subsequently, an analysis of the dropout phenomenon within the technical courses of the Rede Federal was carried out, based on the data presented by the PNP. Finally, a comparison was made between the PNP data and that proposed by Target 11 of the Plano Nacional de Educação - PNE, which demonstrated the undeniable need for each educational institution to investigate this phenomenon in loco, in order to produce a systematized knowledge that can support actions that are capable of combating it, making them more effective and successful, thus maximizing the permanence and success rates of students within the Rede Federal.
