Abstract

Water treatment is an important process that mainly aims at the health of the population, because it eliminates several pathogenic microorganisms. However, most treatment systems are not concerned with the detection and removal of viral particles. They’re the cause of various diseases. Thus, the objective of this study was review academic articles that approach this subjecti. For this, the CAPES platform was used to search for these articles, using the keywords: viruses, water treatment and waterborne diseases. The articles researched were from 2010 to 2020 and the topics animal, bacteria, sewage and sewage treatment were excluded. Thus, 12 articles were obtained; 75% presented some technique for treating virus removal in water. The most efficient was the conventional pre-treatment followed by ultrafiltration membranes and the least efficient was the use of granular activated carbon filter.
