This text presents a review study on research conducted on Modeling in Science and Mathematics (MCM) with high school students. This study aims to understand how MCM practices contribute to the development of Scientific Literacy (AC). Therefore, our research adopts a qualitative approach based on a state-of-knowledge framework. Data were collected through a search on the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations of the Brazilian Institute of Information, Science, and Technology (BDTD). Data analysis followed the procedures of Content Analysis, focusing on three categories: i) Understanding of the models and modeling established in research; ii) The potentialities of MCM pedagogical practices and their contribution to the development of AC, and iii) The challenges associated with integrating MCM into the classroom. Our findings indicate that integrating MCM principles into teaching practices promotes the development of students' AC, from selecting a theme to formulating and validating a model.
